This workshop series was initiated by CIOMP in 2024, aiming to establish a regular exchange platform between China and South Korea in the fields of advanced optics and thermal engineering. The workshop is held alternately in China and South Korea, and this edition marks the third session. It provides a platform for scientists, early‑career researchers, and students at CIOMP working in related fields to exchange ideas and collaborate with their international counterparts.
Prof. Seong Hyuk Lee, Chung Ang University, delivering remarks
This workshop was co chaired by Prof. Wei Li (GPL, CIOMP), Prof. Seong Hyuk Lee (Chung Ang University), and Prof. Longnan Li (GPL, CIOMP). The Korean invited experts included:
• Prof. Seong Hyuk Lee (Chung Ang University) – a full professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering at Chung-Ang University in South Korea. the Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Chung-Ang University and the Director of the Next Generation Energy Security Research Institute at Chung-Ang University. He is currently the Director of the Multi-dimensional Battery Research Institute at Chung-Ang University, Vice President (and President for the year 2025) of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Thermal Fluid Engineering Division (TED), and Vice President of the Korean Society for Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ILASS)
• Prof. Honghyun Cho (Chosun University) – Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chosun University; President of the Korean Society for Geothermal and Hydrothermal Energy and Vice President of the Thermal Engineering Division of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME).
• Prof. Bong Jae Lee (KAIST) – Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); ASME Fellow (2021) and AUTSE Fellow (2023); KAIST Endowed Chair Professor(2020-2022).
• Prof. Jeong Ji Hwan (Pusan National University) – Professor of Pusan National University; President of Commission B2 of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) .
The experts delivered insightful presentations on cutting edge topics including Plasmon transfer in nanoscale metal films, non-reciprocal thermal radiation, near-field thermal radiation, and energy-efficient systems and materials. The lively discussions and active exchanges among experts, young scholars, and students fully demonstrated the collaborative vitality and innovative potential in the interdisciplinary field of photonics and thermal engineering.
